Who says that only the likes of Columbia Pictures, KIA, Huawei and Azerbaijan can be the official sponsor of Atletico de Madrid? Well, this is not true because the premier Spanish La Liga club have named the online trading services firm Plus500 as their new main partner and sponsor in a two-year deal.

That’s right. Along with the announcement, the Atletico have also unveiled the shirt that the team would wear for the upcoming season, with a new shirt sponsor to match.

Significantly, the Plus500, a multinational company that specializes in the online trading of CFDs, will become the front-of-shirt sponsor of the Spanish soccer club. Financial terms were not disclosed, but reports indicate the deal could be worth 11 million annually to Atletico.

The two-year sponsorship came in to replace the team’s partnership with ‘Azerbaijan, Land of Fire’ that had caused a lot of controversy in recent years.

Known to many Spanish La Liga fans, Azerbaijan was still in partnership with the Atletico de Madrid when the team secured the Spanish League title in 2013/14. Azerbaijan remained their sponsor until they reached the Champions League final that season, which they unfortunately lost to local rivals Real Madrid.

Now that the team has closed a deal with the Turkey-based Plus500, we’d expect a shirt that bears not only the name of the firm but more so, the symbol of Atletico de Madrid’s league and cup double.

According to the squad, the shirt is a tribute to the 95-96 double winning side, as the start of the season marks 20 years since the ‘Doblete’.

Moreover, the home jersey features five red stripes on white, just like the one 20 years ago, with a blue stripe outline reaching down to the shorts.

For the first time in the history of Atletico, the back of the shirt will be completely red. On the last few shirts, a red square has been present in order for the numbers to be visible for European competition.

Having won La Liga on ten occasions, Atletico have never failed to amaze and excite their supporters. With Plus500 sponsorship, we’re very sure that the next season will be more thrilling for the Spanish club players. We just hope that the new partnership between Atletico and Plus500 would not spark any controversy in the future.

Could Plus500-deal give so much luck to Atletico de Madrid? Well, let’s see that luck trickling in this coming season!
